Hotels sell out during the Festival, so make your reservations early. We also recommend reservations at restaurants, especially during the weekends. Try the hotels out of Centro for better prices and availability. Wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking in Centro - cars are not allowed in this area. The evenings can be chilly, so bring a light jacket. Use the interactive map for the exact location of each venue and city landmarks.

Inaugurated on October 27 of 1903 by the President of the Republic General Porfirio Díaz, the theater shows the eclecticism in the architecture of that time.
The facade is formed by twelve columns of green quarries, finished off by brass and sculptures of the nine muses. The interior is Moorish, with arabesque balconies, boxes and panels. The acoustics and amazing interior make this one of the premiere venues for musical events during the Cervantino.

Templo de Compañia

Templo de Compañia, or Society of Jesus, is the best example of golden age of architecture in Guanajuato. It marks the most mature stage of Churrigueresque design in New Spain.
The construction of this church began in 1747 and was completed in 1765. Restored religious paintings can be seen in the sacristy.

Auditorio del Estado is the largest performance venue in Guanajuato, with seating for 1,800 attendees. The Auditorium has been host of international-class performances of dance, music and theater.

- Diego Rivera Museum. The museum is hosting a special show during the Festival featuring the work of Manuel Felguérez, who is considered one of the greatest painters of the abstract movement in Mexico.

- Pípila Monument. The monument is a tribute to Juan José de los Reyes Martínez nicknamed "Pípila", who set the door of la Alhóndiga de Grenaditas on fire and was instrumental in obtaining the first victory against Spain.

Driving and Parking Information
From San Miguel de Allende, go through the glorieta and follow the signs to "Centro" through the tunnel. In the tunnel, you will see a parking garage on your right. For events in Centro, this is one of the largest parking garages. Hotel Casa de Luna and Posada Santa Fe offer parking at their hotels.

This Churrigueresque church, built of pink quarry stone, features three wooden altarpieces covered in gold leaf.
The church was constructed to honor the largest producing mine in New Spain and was completed in 1778. Initially, the church belonged to the Hospitalet Order of the Latins. That same order built a convent adjoining to the church which they never occupied. Today it houses the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Guanajuato.

Valenciana is located on the north side of Guanajuato, a 15-minute drive from Centro. Taxis charge $30 pesos for the ride from Centro and more from the bus station.

- Valenciana Mine Tour. Visit the entry to the Valenciana Mine, once the largest-producing silver mine in the world.
- Ojo de Venado. On the main plaza to the right of the church, this delightful store has a great collection of Mexican folk art -- very reasonably priced.
