TRONCONES

A surfing, yoga and eco-tourism mecca where along the charming streets, chickens roam free.  An average day would be an early morning mountain bike ride, an afternoon nap and sunset cocktails on the beach.  A good day would be waking up and doing that all over again.  And rest assured, there are no bad days in this sleepy fishing and farming village.

Background & History

Only 25 minutes from Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa, Troncones isn’t glitz and five star, it’s the true Mexico.  Nestled between the jungled foothills of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains and the warm tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean Troncones is part of the Municipio of La Unión in the state of Guerrero.  Home to about 600 permanent residents of mainly fishermen, farmers, and ranchers, Troncones has also become one of Mexico’s favorite eco-resorts.

Things to Do

Troncones is rustic and under-developed so if all-inclusive resort is what you want, Troncones may not be for you.  It’s a slower, more rural pace with only one market and where hiring a small home is favored over a hotel.  Surfers from around the world descend on the coastline - where whales and dolphins frolic - which makes for a nice vibe around town.  Days can be spent fishing, snorkeling, swimming, exploring tide pools, bird watching or maybe just vegetable shopping for that night’s salad.  Adventurous?  Go for a horse ride along the beach and spy sea turtles, bike/jeep up the coast or take a day trip to Patzcuaro, a timeless mountain town known for textiles, copper, and hand-crafted furniture.

How to Get There

By land:  Troncones is 483 km southeast of Mexico City and 281 km from Acapulco.
By air:  Troncones is approximately a 40 minutes taxi or car ride from the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa International airport, which handles national and international air traffic.

Getting Around

REQUIRED that you have a car.  There is no public transportation and taxi’s are unreliable unless it’s prearranged.
